Tania closed her suitcase and checked her list, she had crossed everything. Placed a book, camera and passport in her carryon luggage and went downstairs. She was excited, it has been a year since she had a vacation. She and five of her friends were doing an American tour starting in Los Angeles and finishing in New York. The doorbell rang, and it was Trevor and Benny.
“Are you ready.” Benny said.
“Yes, we need to pick Michelle and Frida then airport.”
“Okay.” Benny said picking up her suitcase and taking it to the car.
Tania removed her house keys and gave it to Trevor and said, “Take care of my house, no parties.” She smiled and gave Trevor a kiss and walked to the car. Trevor waved goodbye as Benny’s car reserved out of the driveway.
Trevor closed the door and smiled. Tania’s house was on top of a cliff and had an amazing view. He walked to the sitting room and looked at the view of the ocean, boats and yachts. upend the sliding door, people walking on the beach, others playing volleyball, or surfing. Entered the house and walked upstairs, the house had eight bedrooms and ten bathrooms. Two kitchens and sitting room as majestic dining room where Tania had her weekly dinners. She had a library which made everyone envy not only filled with books, it had the view of the ocean and the swimming pool. He walked to her room and felt the warm bed and sat on it then stood up and closed the door and walked around the house. He looked forward to enjoying the house.
Malia loved driving along the Drovel Street, the beach houses were luxurious and the turquois beach and white sands stretched for miles along the coast. Envied people who lived on those houses, they had the perfect view of the beach, the street had luxurious cars and the foreshore filled with coffee shops and restaurants. The weekends crowded with people on the beach boardwalk and restaurants. She parked her car near the beach and took her towel, umbrella and book. Placed her towel on the warm sand. Her heart beat fast, as she stared at Trevor, he had a tanned skin, lean body and strong. Trevor had come out from the house, he walked to the beach with his surfboard.
She stood up and walked towards his direction and said,
“That’s a lovely house you got.”
“Thanks,” Trevor said walking towards the beach pretending to be uninterested.
“You and your wife are so lucky.” Malia said walking towards Trevor.
He turned round and said, “Not married, single.”
“Oh, I am Malia,” she said stretching out her arms to greet him.
“Hi, Trevor.” Shaking her hand. “Do you live around here?”
“Nooo, I live in Handsons, an hour away.”
Trevor smiled and said, “Hey, I can show you around my house.”
Malia entered the house, she was in awe, as she walked around the house. Trevor opened the fridge and poured ice tea in two glasses. He walked towards her and gave her a glass which she took.
“Such a stunning house.”
“Thanks” Trevor said sipping his drink smiling.
She continued walking around the house, impressed with the library, the outdoor kitchen, the pool and the bedrooms.
Benny came in the house, he heard Malia and Trevor laughing.
Trevor said, “Malia, Benny.”
Benny smiled and shook her hand.
“Do you live here?”
“No, how do you know Trev.”
“Meet him at the beach and gave me a tour of his amazing house,”
“Hey Malia, will pick you up for dinner tonight. Hey Benny need my Benz.”
When she left Benny said.
“Tania will kill you if she ever found out what you are doing.”
“Hey Benny don’t worry, she will be back in two weeks.”
“Yea I know, this isn’t your house Trev.”
“I know, but she is cute, when she approached me-”
“You lied to her and told her it’s your house.”
“Hey, it worked well-.”
“Haven’t you learnt?” Benny said looking at him. “The last girl burnt your car when she found out that this was never your house.”
“One day Tania will find out you used her house and car to impress women.”
“Haven’t been caught.”
“Yea, because you break up with them before she arrives or tell them the truth.” Benny said putting the car keys on the table.
That night Trevor toke Tania’s car and picked up Malia, they went to an Italian restaurant and took her to the house. He let her stay there for the night, the following day they went to the foreshore for breakfast and he dropped her home. Malia was happy, she meet a great guy and he let her spend the day in the house. loved the house, imagined having cocktail parties. Walked to the beach every morning and evening with Trevor.
Trevor realised Tania was coming they next day, and he had to break up with her, he wanted to spend one last night together before Tania comes.
Tania opened the door and dropped the bags on the floor, and walked to the kitchen. Malia walked towards the kitchen wearing an oversize t-shirt. Tania screamed and dropped the red mug on the floor. Trevor ran downstairs in a towel wrapped round his waist and was shocked, she wasn’t supposed to be here.
“What are you doing in Trevor’s house?”
“What,” Tania said looking at Malia. “This ain’t his house, it’s mine.”
“What-,” Malia exclaimed.
“I thought, you were arriving tomorrow.” Trevor said in shock.
“No, today, didn’t Benny tell you.” Tania looked at Trevor. “Got my days wrong.”
Trevor nodded his head and said no.
“Why can’t you take your girlfriend to your apartment?”
“I thought this was his house, who are you?” Malia said looking at Tania.
“Tania, my house, friends with Trevor since high school.” Tania took a newspaper and hit Trevor, “Can’t believe you use my house to impress women, use your apartment.”
“That’s his car.”
“Nope mine, everything here is mine. He lives in a two-bedroom apartment, drives a Toyota, he stays here when I am out of town or vacation. Hey, how many women have you brought to this house Trev.”
Tears dropped from Malia’s eyes, “Why did you lie.”
“Yea Trev, why, huh.” Tania said looking at Trevor.
Trevor said nothing. Malia walked passed Trevor and ran upstairs in tears.
“Why did you lie to her, this isn’t your house. That explains why strange women come to the house looking for you.”
“Hey, I am sorry.”
Malia packed her bag and sat on the bed with tears in her eyes and cried when Trevor walked in, she stood up and slapped him on the face. She walked downstairs where Tania was eating potato chips and continued walking to the door.
“I called a taxi for you.” Tania shouted and walked behind Malia as Malia opened the door, entered the taxi and left.
Trevor walked downstairs and said, “Hey, I am sorry.”
“Get out.” Tania said pushing him out the door.
Trevor heard the door slam and entered his car. looked at the house for the last time.
