For years, he carefully planned this day. Today they will find her. Quentin stood by the window and waited, his hands in his pockets as a violinist played Amazing Grace on his stereo. The white van stopped and parked across the street. Three men and two women in their mid-twenties laughed and talked as they removed tools from the van and walked inside the house. Quentin walked to the dining table put the disposable phone off and threw the phone in the bin. His fingers walked on the table towards the laptop where he created the fake website, pressed the delete button, and closed his laptop. Walked backed to the window and said,
“Let the fun begin.”
Linda entered the empty three bedroom house stuffy house and smiled,
“Wow, starting my business. A dessert restaurant, will call it, Linda’s.”
Sheila walked inside holding a paint tin and put it on the floor,
“Yea, a dessert and sweet shop. Can you imagine people entering through the front door walking towards the old sitting room, taking a seat. A waiter comes over and gives them their menu.”
Linda kept walking to the dining room and looked at Sheila,
“What can I get you, Madam?”
“I shall have a latte with a chocolate fudge cake with a scope of ice cream.”
“Oh, please bring me, brownies and Crème Brule.”
“Sure, since you're our first customer, you will have complimentary champagne and–.”
Ben shouted, “Stop daydreaming and let’s get work done, this place stinks, who died here.”
Linda said, “Oh, jealous.”
“Oh, please, I will put gym brochures outside your shop.”
Max entered the house, “Wow, what is that awful smell? why are you changing the house to a sugar overload shop? Couldn’t you renovate and sell the house?”
Linda answered, “I don’t know, wanted a business of my own.”
“You could change it into a business consultancy firm, furniture shop, renovate it and rent the house. You know, instead of a sugar overload -.”
“Stop calling it a sugar overload shop.”
Phil peeled the old white paint from the wall,
“Call it whatever Linda–.”
Ben answered. “People will go to the gym.”
Phil smiled as he continued peeling the white paint from the wall and he removed his sledge hammer and hit the wall. Pulled the old chipboard and noticed a green cupboard.
“Hey guys, look what I found.”
The crew gathered behind Phil.
Sheila said, “What’s inside the green cupboard.”
“I don’t know.”
Linda said, “It belonged to the old tenants, let me open it.”
Linda walked in front of Phil and opened the door, a Skelton fell on her, and she screamed as pushed it away and ran outside the house.
Meanwhile Quentin laughed when Linda ran out of the house screaming and Ben followed her. Sheila came out next and vomited on the green grass as Phil and Max came out of the house terrified. Quentin took the disposable phone and called the cops.
“Hi, I heard screams from two blocks away a girl running and screaming on the street. I think she is being chased.”
He put the phone off and threw it in the bin.
Ben had caught up with Linda, tears in her eyes and he hugged her,
“Calm down, dear.”
“Calm down, a Skelton fell on me.”
A police car stopped near them, a man in a blue police suit came out,
“Are you ok, Madam, is the man harassing you.”
She rubbed a tear from her eyes, “No, a dead body in house number 67.”
The police officer entered the house and came out after a few minutes later as he talked to someone on the walkie-talkie. A few minutes later a black SUV drove by the house. Sally and Sargent Dez came out of the car. Sally walked towards the house. Sergeant Dez looked around, stared at Quentin’s house and wondered if he was home. Walked towards Quentin's house and knocked on the door but there was no answer. He peeped through the glass window, couldn’t see, walked towards the house as the patrol officers placed yellow tape around the house.
Dez entered the house and walked towards Sally who was examining the Skelton and he said,
“What did you find?”
“Our victim is female, in her late twenties early thirties. Her legs, hips and head fractured. The body knocked by a car and fell on a hard surface.”
“A hit and run.”
“Who lived in this house?”
“According to the neighbours, Mrs Prick lived here. Found another body in the back garden.”
“There is another body.”
“Yeah, an older woman, in her late seventies early eighties. Not sure how she died.”
“Did you call the real estate agent who sold this house?”
“The poor girl Linda got swindled. She bought the house on line from a website called Dream Business. She cannot trace the caller or find the website.”
“Was this organised?”
“I think whoever sold her this house, knew what happened -.”
“And wanted us to find the body.”
Quentin checked his passport and put it in his hand luggage and closed his suitcase. Walked to the garage, placed his last bag in the car, and closed the booth. Took a deep breath and walked to the house. The estate agent was coming later to sell his house and looked around for the last time. He remembered a year ago he got released from prison and he had to murder Nora Good for lying to the police. He spent five years in prison, five wasted years.
One his first day of being released he entered a cab and went to his old house. He opened the door, a couple in their thirties jumped, and he told them to come out of his house. They refused, and he walked to the counter opened a draw, removed a gun and shot them. Placed their bodies in their car and drove their car to a cliff and watched it roll and into bursting into flames. He later called a movers truck, placed their items in the truck, and told the movers to donate it.
The second day, he walked to his basement and took cash bought new furniture and a car.
The third he didn’t have to search for Nora Good. She was everywhere, on the news, in the magazines, newspapers and Facebook. That day she updated her Facebook status stating she was heading to France for a well deserved vacation. Quentin knew where she lived.
Quentin wondered if Mrs Prick, still stayed across the road. She was a loner, had no family, and stayed alone. He peeped through the window. Mrs Prick stood outside watering her yellow Daisy. That night he entered her house and walked to her bedroom, took the pillow and put it over her face and held it tight, until she stopped breathing. Carried her body outside, dug a hole, and buried her in her garden.
On the fourth day, The chauffeur, Sammy, stood outside the car waiting for Nora. He walked towards Sammy and hit him at the back of the head with his gun. The chauffeur fell on the hard pavement. He dragged his body, pushed it into the garden, and entered the Limo.
Nora locked the house and entered the Limo and said,
“Need to go to the airport Sammy.”
Quentin smiled and drove the car but instead of turning right, he turned left towards South West and Nora said,
“Where are we going?”
Quentin didn’t say a word and Nora tapped on the window,
“Sammy, where are we going?”
Quentin turned and looked at Nora,
Nora gasped in shock as Quentin continued driving.
“Quentin, what are you doing?”
“You liar, you set me to prison.”
“Look, I’m sorry. Stop the car, will tell the truth.”
“Ha, I don’t believe you.”
“Please stop the car,”
Tears dropped from her eyes.
“Where are you taking me?”
Quentin stopped the Limo near Mrs Prick’s black car and told her to get out of the Limo, she refused and he dragged her. She screamed and kicked him on the shin with her shoes and he let her go as he howled in pain. Nora removed her shoes and ran, there were no other cars on the quiet road. She heard a screeching sound from the back, turned round, and saw the Limo coming towards her at a fast speed.
Quentin hit her from the back, her body flew in the air and fell on the road with a loud thud. Came out of the car and squatted near her as she took her last breath. Lifted her lifeless body and placed it in Mrs Prick’s car. Put kerosene on the Limo and set it on fire and watched it burn. Entered Mrs Prick’s car and drove home. At night he took Nora’s body opened the green coat cupboard at Mrs Prick’s house and put her body there.
The following day, he ordered chipboard and covered the cupboard. Quentin later took Nora’s phone and wrote on her Facebook status.
“I need to say the truth, I sent Quentin to prison, I lied, he didn’t rob from me. We started a company together. Set him up and told the police he stole from the safe. Hid a video in the study room and told him to go collect the money from my safe. Lied he never brought it but he did. I lied to everyone.”
He closed the phone and threw it in Mrs Prick’s trash.
Beth arrived at Nora’s house and screamed when she tripped over Sammy’s lifeless body. The police arrived and they search the house for Nora but they couldn’t find her. They searched the parks, beach even the airport, but found nothing. The Police got a tip that there was an abandoned burnt car on the road side near Lancelin. Sally and Dez found the burnt Limo but no Nora.
Sally walked on the road as she followed the footprints and stopped at dried blood on the road and alerted Dez. The police officer and guard dogs searched for Nora but found nothing. The following day Dez entered Quentin’s house with a warrant, they search the whole house and his car and found nothing, and they left him alone.
On the anniversary of Nora’s death, Quentin wanted the police to find Nora’s body. Created a website called Dream Business. Took pictures of Mrs Prick’s house and posted it on his blog. He didn’t have an open day or posted flyers. People wanted to view the house, but he refused, they had to pay for the house on line. Then one day a girl called Linda agreed to buy the house and sent him the money online
Then the day arrived when Linda and her friends found the body. He walked back to the car and opened the garage door. Drove out of the driveway, waved to Dez, and smiled as he kept on driving towards the airport.
